What to do when the Tooth Fairy goes MIA!

Ok – don’t panic! It happens to all of us. I swear it does. It must! I can’t be the only one to have ever woken up to a son or daughter completely devastated by that little shimmery winged magical creature when she did not bless us with her presence and leave a coin or two!!

I mean, she’s magic! She instantly knows when each and every child loses a tooth. Then she adds them to her rounds. Doesn't she??!! How could she do this to my poor wee child?

I can tell you how – she’s absolutely drop on the floor, mom bun, yoga pants every day kind of exhausted and her brain can’t handle even one single addition to that list. Unfortunately, your child just happens to be the one taking the hit for that exhaustion on this particular night. And since we can’t fire her (she’s the only tooth airy we’ve got), we’re going to have to do some damage control.

So what do you do or say to your heart broken child when the Tooth Fairy has unwittingly broken their poor little heart…

Perhaps one of these can help!

Was it freezing cold outside? Have you ever seen the movie Secret of the Wings? That Tinkerbell movie when the summer/spring fairies couldn’t fly into winter (where the winter fairies live) and if they did, their wings would freeze and they wouldn’t be able to fly? If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend. When my twins were born, I must have seen this one a thousand times because we all enjoyed it and I was too exhausted to even ponder what else we should all watch. Anyhow - YES! That’s why she didn’t come last night. That Polar Vortex that hit us is to blame. Perhaps she will leave a little note to tell your little one where she was and all will be well. Full disclosure though, my daughter Emma replied to this one with "BUT SHE'S MAGIC!"... as if Tinkerbell are NOT the same kind of fairy at all mom. But I think that this could still be a legit reason for her not showing up.

Was it JUST before bed when they lost their tooth? Or worse yet, at some point throughout the night when no one was watching? The Tooth Fairy has a list that she builds throughout the day and once she’s headed out on her rounds, names can simply not get added. I'm sure that this is the case as this happened to our daughter one night when she lost her tooth but then didn’t tell anyone about it. She just secretly put it under her pillow and then was crushed the next morning, holding the tooth and demanding an explanation for why the little winged money bags didn’t show up (my words – not hers. Obviously!)

And finally, were you somewhere other than at home in your nice cozy beds? If so, remember, she's not Santa after all. She doesn't necessarily know that you've taken a trip in your trailer and that she should make sure to have extra cash for your son's unexpected loose tooth while you're camping!! So stay calm and remind your little one know that she may not have realized that you were away for vacation and that you can easily try again the next night. Unless you don't think she'll make it that night either, then I recommend just waiting until you get home. It sucks if she doesn't come for two nights in a row. Take it from me as she's done it to us. At least it had seemed that she hadn't come for the second night. Then I had a thought and sent Emma back in to check and see if she'd taken the tooth out of the paper towel and perhaps left the coins in there! And Voila! The coins where there!! We'd all missed them the first time she'd looked, not thinking to look IN the tissue. I'm mean, why would we. She'd never done THAT before!

But she can be unpredictable, that Tooth Fairy! You never know when she's going to flake next. Santa only has one night to worry about and she's got 365!!! That can't be easy. Let's forgive her if she stuffs up a bit - shall we?

Oh, and by the way! A missing Tooth Fairy is not the only thing that can go wrong with this magical tradition. What if she would come if there were a tooth, but the tooth is missing because your little wanted to show everyone at school, right above those nice white tile floors and now there is no tooth to be placed under the pillow? I've got you covered there as well. The Tooth Fairy is really not that worried when it comes to the collecting of the tooth part. The leaving of the coin is the her way of celebrating the milestone with the children of the world. If she doesn't have a tooth to fetch, it's no bother to her and a little note will do. Write a personal letter to her, draw a picture for her, and all will be forgiven. She will keep that as her token instead!

Until next time my lovely readers! Thanks for reading and be sure to share with your friends.
